Only One Hour

In "All Summer in a Day", by Ray Bradbury, a girl named Margot attends to school in the planet Venus, she comes from Iowa in the Earth. In Venus there is no sun and don't stop raining, the sun comes only one hour every seven years. In this school the kids are being mean to Margot because she has seen the sun before. When she is telling the kids how is the sun, they don't believe her and lock her in a closet, the sun come out, the kids play for one hour and Margot is locked in the closet. When the kids return they unlock her and she is not able to see the sun, Margot needs to wait seven more years.

Ray Bradbury is a great author, and he use as many of imagery like of personification. In this story you could find many examples of imagery. For example,

"They stopped running and stood in the great jungle that covered Venus, that grew and never stopped growing, tumultuously, even as you watched it. It was a nest of octopi, clustering up great arms of fleshlike weed, wavering, flowering in this brief spring. It was the color of rubber and ash, this jungle, from the many years without sun."

Ray Bradbury wants you to understand how is this jungle, so he used the sense of sight to describe it so you can imagine it. here it says that the forest had weed, flowers, and the color of rubber and ash. Ray Bradbury not only uses imagery, but also characterization. For example,

"Oh, but," Margot whispered, her eyes helpless. "But this is the day, the scientists  predict,  they say, they know, the sun… All a joke !" said the boy, and seized her roughly. "Hey, everyone, let’s put he in a closet before the teacher comes !" No," said Margot, falling back".

In this quote, you can understand that Margot has the hope that the sun will come and she like the sun. also you can understand that the kids are mean to Margot because they hate her, that's why they put her in the closet.

This story was very interesting, it is one of my favorites. Ray Bradbury its a very good writer and I like how he writes about futuristic worlds. The message/theme of this story is Respect to others, Don't be shy of sharing what you know.

Truth About Release

Jonas and his family were surprised because they have announced the unscheduled holiday. And the substitute laborers took over all the necessary tasks, like the nurturer, or the house of the old and the community was free. He wished his family good holidays and took his bicycle and look for Asher. Asher and Fiona where playing a game of war and he told them to stop because he knows what can cause that and that he is bad. then  Jonas ask The Giver if he had thought about release and he told Jonas that he sometimes is thinking about his own release when had a lot of pain but he is not permitted until the new receivers trained. He told Jonas about this girl named Rosemary that The Giver liked her and said that that was love. He told Jonas that she apply for release and when that happen all memories where transmitted to all in the community. Next Jonas wanted to see the release of the two twins that his father would do and he go and said to the voice speaker that he wanted to see the release. He was watching how his father took the weight of the two twins and then he says how he killed them. He was surprised, and The Giver takes with him and Jonas didn’t go to his house for ''additional training''. Later he goes to the annex at the night and he said that there’s no attendance in the night, so The Giver let his door unlocked. The Giver said to Jonas that he loves him but when his work is finished he has to go to ''another place'' he said that he wanted to be with his daughter. Jonas said that he didn’t know the giver had a daughter and The Giver replied ''her name was Rosemary''. That day they wanted to change the community so they make a plan.

''As he continued to watch, the new child, no longer crying, moved his arms and legs in a jerking motion. Then he went limp. His head fell to the side, his eyes half open. Then he was still.'' ( Lowry 150)

In this part of the book I was shocked because all this time we read, these entire chapter, we didn’t know what means release, until now. Jonas at first he was confused, but then when he saw that his father kill babies he felt sorry about the babies because he is the only one that have memories therefore is the only one who have fillings about this in the community.

This book is awesome; it’s one of the best books I have ever read. It’s extremely interesting and this book obviously had to won this John Newberry Medal. I don’t want to finish this book because it’s very interesting.
