The Giver Chapters 13-16

On chapters 13-16 Jonas starts knowing more about the colors, because that he thinks that is not fair that no one knows about the colors. So Jonas tries to give Jonas this memory but it doesn’t work. Also The Giver gives him the memory of hunters killing an elephant and then Jonas tells Lily that elephants are real. The Giver explains Jonas that his job is very important for the society because it helps the committee of elders helping solve some problems. The Giver had pain and some days he sent Jonas back to his house. Jonas ask why he is feeling so much pain and he said that was this memory of a sled that he got hurt and feel pain. One day he tries to make Gabe sleep so he transmitted a memory and maybe he could receive it because he maybe will be the next receiver, so then Gabe sleep. Then Jonas asks what is making The Giver feel pain and The Giver transmitted him the memory of war. So then The Giver apologize Jonas because he felt bad making Jonas felt that memory so he transmitted many pleasure memories to balance.

‘‘You’ll be able to apply for a spouse, Jonas, if you want to. I'll warn you, thought, it will be difficult.

I choose this quote from the book because in here it shows the theme individuality. Everyone is allowed to pick a spouse IF YOU WANT TO. This phrase it shows that no one has the obligation to pick a spouse because if you don’t want to, you don’t have to.

This book shows us that life isn’t perfect because you can’t get more pleasure tan pain; this book shows us that you have to get a balanced life between pain and pleasure. I connect this to the Hinduism story that tell that you have to get a balanced life

The Giver Chapters 9-12

On these chapters it happen many things. Jonas received the instructions about his new assignment. Some of this rules where that he can skip the dream ceremony when they told their dreams, and he fined this very useful because he very rarely dreamed. another rule was that now he can lie, and Jonas start realizing that maybe all in the community are lying because maybe in the instructions of all the assignments it says that they can lie, so he think that maybe all in the community above 12 years are lying. Later Jonas and his friends will get their first training. Jonas go to the Annex where it will be his first training, when he get inside it was a huge library with many books and there’s was The Giver that he was the old Receiver. He starts with giving him some memories first the snow then the sunburn and sunshine. Later Jonas lies for the first time in his life to his mother. Then Jonas was going with Fiona to the training and he sees the color red and The Giver gives him the memory of the colors.

 

‘‘There was a question bothering Jonas. ''sir'' he said, ''the chief Elder told me-she told everyone-and you told me, too, that it will be painful. So I was scared. But it didn’t hurt at all I really enjoyed It.'' he looked at the old man the man sighed. ''I started you with memories of pleasure. My previous failure gave me the wisdom to do that.'' he took a few deep breathes. ''Jonas,'' he said. '' It will be painful. But it need not be painful yet.''

I connect this with the theme pain vs pleasure because he is talking about that he is now felling pleasure but then he will feel pain.

This book is very interesting from the few books I've read this is one of the best. I hope we can finish this book the fast as we can, because I also want to see the movie, but maybe the movie isn’t that interesting as the book. I think books are more interesting than  movies about that book.

 

The Giver Chapters 5-8

On chapter 5 on the giver Jonas in the morning rituals, when they tell their dreams, he didn’t contribute too much usually because he didn’t dream too much but that morning he had dreamed vividly, he had a dream of stirrings and his mother tell Jonas to start taking some pills because everyone should take them in the community. On chapter 6 they gave Gabe one more year to go to a family. And on chapter 7 the ceremony of 12 start and Jonas is feeling very nervous, they tell everyone his assignment and Jonas is the number 19, they give Fiona the assignment of Caretaker of old, and Asher of director of recreation. When it was time for Jonas, the chief Elder skipped his turn and Jonas felled stunned. on chapter 8 he apologize to Jonas and he finally tell Jonas what his new assignment will be, he announced that the assignment for Jonas will be the new receiver, and he have to ability to see beyond.

While I was Reading this book I thought of this quote: ''I don’t understand it yet. I don’t know what it is. But sometimes I see something. And maybe it is beyond'' (Lowry 64) And it make me think of something, maybe Jonas is very different from the rest and he can see what is good for the community and what will be best. Maybe that’s why they choose him to be the receiver.

I predict before on the book that Fiona and Jonas will work together and marry, but it didn’t happen... yet. So I predict later on the book Fiona want to marry him and they escape every night to see them because it is against the rules

The Giver Chapters 1-4

 On chapter 1 the narrator introduces Jonas, Lilly, his father and his mother and Asher that is Jonas best friend. They talk about some ceremonies they do every December. There was the 9 ceremony that they receive their bicycle and in the 12 ceremony was the most important. They assigned their jobs. And he is almost 12 years old.

On chapter 2 his father and he were talking about how he received his nurture assignment. Also he tells him how the committee of elders chooses an assignment to every kid, that they are watching the kids and they choose the best assignment for him.

On chapter 3 Jonas father brought a baby from the nurturing center and he found his name. His name was Gabriel but it was against the rules. Jonas takes an apple from the Recreational center and they said from the microphone that no one should take anything from the recreational center. Also Jonas is very nervous about what his assignment would be, because what if he doesn't like it.

 On chapter 4 he start working at the house of the old for the volunteer hours, and they met this kid named Benjamin that he work at the rehabilitation center for 4 years and he was eleven. Then he helped Larissa to take a bath while she told them about this man named Roberto that was released and that day they celebrated his released.

Pages 3-4, question is that in here it says ''we accept your apology'' and that was very weird because they all said at the same time. They looked like robots programed to do that. After I read that I have a different perspective about the book. At first I just look this book like it was a dystopia not that perfect. But now I see this dystopia is all perfect and that they do everything following the rules.

In conclusion this is a great book so far that I am on chapter 4 but it still very interesting.  It is interesting to read in class with my peers and with my teacher because I understand better taking sticky notes and also with my teacher reading because she is a great reader. I predict that he will get the assignment of a doctor because his father is a nurturer and he like to help people, that is my prediction.

The Giver Pre-Reading

The giver it’s about this kid that until he is twelve his life is perfect, there's no war, no suffer, no pain, no fear. But when he is 12 he starts receiving the truth about his world and start realizing is no perfect. And when he starts getting old he is going crazy about the world because it is not that perfect as he thought.

I think Louis is saying that we can trust our future because they can change our future. Kids can change our future because they are very important in the society. And also she said that because she is trying to explain that kids that we trust our future can make a difference in our lifes.
 

I predict that Jonas will be a different person from this community. And he is going to be someone who change all the story
